The first movie I watched in a movie theatre is Jungle book. Naturally I hardly remember much of the movie for I was a little under two years of age and . I only recall it had something to do with a boy in a jungle where there was a talking bear, tiger, a snake, elephant and some huge dogs which I now know were wolves. And of course a tiger which was quite scary and evil looking.
Years later, Jungle book returned to enthrall me as a kid, this time on Door-darshan or the national TV channel of India. So every sunday morning, my brother and me would eagerly look forward to the adventures of Mowgli. This was a Japanese anime that was dubbed in Hindi with noted lyricist Gulzar penning the title track and Vishal Bharadwaj composing the music. Nana Patekar was the voice of Sher Khan. It was fun to watch Mowgli learn new things about the jungle with Bagheera, a panther and Baloo, a bear. For mischief, he had his fellow wolf-brothers Akdoo and Pakdoo and his pet red-panda Pappu for company. Sher Khan, the villainous tiger and his side-kick, a hyena called Tabaqui used to try and corner Mowgli in almost every episode.
I still remember bits and pieces of the theme song of this lovable animated series. Listening to it reminds me of the carefree days of childhood. You can relive those memories by checking out this youtube video
