Snail story

The rain-gods had taken a fancy to San Diego the last couple of days. So it was a magical weekend beginning with waking up to the sound of raindrops and enjoying feeling the mist hanging so low down that it almost caressed the face. Feeling refreshed by Nature's "Good Morning "wish, S and me decided to make the day better with a walk followed by our usual workout. So we strolled out all buttoned up and dropped by the mailbox on the way where a surprise awaited me. In these days of e-mail and instant messages, I was surprised to find a large envelope addressed to me from a friend. The content of the mail was totally unexpected, it was a calendar that had lovely pictures from the wild continent of Africa and a wish for a bright and healthy 2013.

Having checked the snail-mail, S and me decided to hit the gym. And guess who greeted us at the gym's entrance? A snail was trudging along with all the speed it could muster. Now, for someone like me who has lived only in the urban world where rains only meant water-logged streets and more traffic jams, this was a new sight. I  couldn't control my excitement. I looked at it from all possible angles and hesitantly touched its shell. Hubby realized my curiosity and picked it up and placed it on my hand. The gentle creature seemed to have sensed the change in its surrounding and before I knew it, withdrew itself into the shell. After dilly-dallying as to whether I needed to take it home or not, I decided to let it be and placed it back where we had found it. If only I had my phone with me, I could have at least clicked a picture of the snail. When we returned back after our workout,  my new-found friend was not to be seen. I guess it had moved on towards its destination and we moved to the warmth of our home to munch on sizzling hot dosas and sip on coffee to round up a lovely morning...

Call for deliverance

Bound by my frailties
I flap wings of endless dreams
can I ever fly?

Dusk

Pause awhile, reflect
joys, fears layered within-
dusk plucks soul-string.

Song of dusk

"Come ye traveller,
rest awhile fore you fly again",
the young night sang.

The young night sang
"never give up your heart's pursuit,
fill your heart with dreams "

"Fill your heart with dreams,
while I soothe your aching limbs;
fore you fly away..."

Meandering mind

Idle mind stokes many a doubt-
nagging, always fading in and out;
Momentarily in the labyrinth they are lost,
yet out of nowhere, the mind they accost.

Dismal thoughts unnerve you with their pace,
they pull you into a mind-numbing pseudo-race.
feasting on luscious spread of hidden fears,
they threaten to drown you in your tears.

We can only waffle in shock or awe-
flummoxed by life's mysteries
or mesmerized by its hidden beauties.
We are only human, is that a flaw?

Ah the mind wanders like a cloud-
seeking solitude in a crowd;
yearning for coterie in wilderness;
rambling on in search of semblance...

The end.

Morsel of courage
fed by mom's loving hug;
Hungry fear perishes.

She was fully focused on completing the long pending task. Her joy knew no bounds when she finally did it. After all, it was a result of multiple mind-over-matter type of debates that matter won hands down.

She had found the perfect pair of stilettos to fill the last vacant spot in her dream wardrobe!!

A walk to remember

Amidst pleasant shade and colorful blossoms,
as we awkwardly sauntered along;
in idle and friendly banter we indulged
trying to judge ourselves thoroughly,
gauge if we were indeed meant to be.
Nagging thoughts went up in smoke
of our pets and peeves as we spoke.
The pace at which our hearts raced
when passionately we embraced,
The earnest promises we made
will remain forever a serenade
as our love for one another we divulged.
With twinkle-eyed smiles I wish life-long
to celebrate with you innumerable springs and autumns...
