Lunch break

  Bell rings, hordes troop out,
laughter, chatter and some food shared too
lunch breaks mean fun time.

******************************
Stemming school dropouts,
nothing motivates like food-
free midday meals help.

******************************
World famished for time;
unhealthy mix of food, work-
meeting over lunch.

******************************

This post is shared with Haikuheights and the prompt is LUNCH

    1. The free-lunch initiative is an effort to prevent children from dropping out to seek odd jobs to help out their families. It has been introduced in many schools in India with positive results. Thank you for dropping by :)

  2. Things we take for granted here...lunch at school. Thank you for sharing this through your haiku. The last one is unfortunately so true.

  4. Reshma this is really interesting. "Mid day meals" scheme is working only in some Govt. schools, Even KV's don't have it.

    1. That's true Ushaji, its mostly undertaken in urban Govt schools other than KV's and rural areas to encourage children to study instead of taking up labour...

  5. Oh I did enjoy these and the last is so deep. Lunch should be a time for relaxing and nourishing our bodies while refreshing our spirit ~ working lunches are a fast track to ulcers!

  11. I worked in a shelter/program for at-risk girls. Food became pavolov's bell. Still, while we had their attention, we did what we could.

  12. Your second haiku is simply wonderful. The government in my country introduced a scheme where free lunch is served to primary school children. Afterwards, statistics indicated a huge percentage increase in school enrollment. It truly works

  15. All 3 are simply good ones depicting the lunch break. The first one took me back to school days. Second one is a hard reality for many! And third is the story of our current times!
