By the flickering winter fire,
wrinkled eyes caught glimpses of yore,
childhood chases, make-believe games,
carefree days and rosy reveries.
In the crackle of golden flames,
she heard tinkles of innocent laughter,
snippets of silly squabbles, candid chatter.
In the warm glow of the hearth,
she felt her mother's affectionate caress,
her brother's hug, father's reassuring clasp.
By the flickering winter fire,
wrinkled eyes caught glimpses of yore,
colorful wedding, promising hopes,
grueling trials and gratifying triumphs.
In the crackle of golden flames,
she heard sweet nothing whispers,
prattle of her offspring, friendly banters .
In the warm glow of the hearth,
she felt the loving support of her spouse,
her children's cuddles, plentiful and playful times.
By the flickering winter fire,
wrinkled eyes caught glimpses of yore,
wheels of time frozen no more,
unearthing bygone dreams and desire.

This is beautiful. Loved how you beautifully depicted the passage of time, the phases of life through the passing of winter. Surely, one of your bests I have read :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's very kind of you Amrit :) Just gazing at the fire makes one nostalgic.

ReplyDeleteTrue Kathy, warmth of the fire heals the tired heart.
DeleteExcellent. It is heavenly, on a cold winter night, sitting in the family room in front of the fire place, both legs on the coffee table, and sipping cognac.

DeleteAwesome. Unfortunately, not many Mumbaikars will have the chance to experience fireplace nostalgia. Our winters are more like a less torrid summer.
ReplyDeleteWell written. Blogrolling you.

Oh yes, Mumbai winters are milder versions of summer. This is the first time I got a taste of winter with snow and fireplace. I remember the chilly Bangalore winters and miss many of the yummy delicacies mom used to dish out lovingly.
DeleteGlad you liked my take :)
